 UPDATE: The latest image shows how the standard Toyota FT-86 sports car will look, minus the Modellista bodykit and accessories seen in the previous leaked images.

You'll note that the headlights are now devoid of the LED detailing seen in the previous shots, and the strangely shaped roof fin is also gone.

The image, which was uploaded to the FT86club forum, also gives us a better indication as to how the upcoming Scion FR-S, the version of the car to be sold in the U.S., will look.

ORIGINAL: Though it isn’t scheduled to be officially revealed until the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in a month's time, alleged images of the production version of the Toyota FT-86 rear-wheel drive sports car have now surfaced online.

The leaked images reveal a design very similar to the one previewed on the myriad of FT-86 concept cars shown over the years, though there are some clear differences.

While the front of the car appears to have kept its gaping mouth look, the production version’s headlights aren’t as aggressive, while the side profile looks a lot smoother.

At the rear is where the biggest changes are apparent, with a new tail-lamp design, as well as a slightly milder diffuser and more conservative bootlid. Overall, however, the car still appears very aggressive and performance oriented.

As for the interior, we can clearly see a short throw shifter for the standard six-speed manual transmission, as well as a large, centrally mounted tacho, and racy bucket seats. There also appears to metal foot pedals though it’s unclear yet as to whether these will be standard features or options.

Importantly, the name of Toyota’s new sports car isn’t revealed although we do know that the automaker’s accessories division Modellista will be developing some new parts for the Japanese domestic market.

No powertrain specs have been revealed, though we do know the car will be coming with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with a horizontally opposed ‘boxer’ design and displacement of 2.0-liters. Direct injection technology should see around 200 horsepower liberated. The car is also expected to have the lowest center of gravity of any volume produced model--about 450 mm in fact.

The 4Runner combines rugged body-on-frame construction with suspension technology that yields ride comfort more often associated with car-based platforms. The 2012 4Runner is available in a variety of configurations and in three models: a well-equipped SR5, top-of-the-line Limited, plus a Trail grade for maximum off-road capability. Optional third-row seats allow for up to seven-person capacity.
Drivetrain configurations include rear wheel 4x2, part-time 4x4 and full-time multi-mode 4x4 with a locking center differential. All models are equipped with a 4.0-liter 270-horsepower V6 teamed to a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission.
Limited Warranty
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. Toyota dealers have complete details on the limited warranty. The 4Runner will also come standard with Toyota Care, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.
